Talk to us about talking

De Wikimedia Foundation is voornemens een wereldwijde raadpleging over communicatie te organiseren. Het doel is om Wikimedianen en andere wiki-gerichte mensen samen te brengen om communicatiehulpmiddelen te verbeteren.

We willen dat alle bijdragers in staat zijn op de wiki's met elkaar te overleggen, ongeacht hun ervaring, hun vaardigheden en ongeacht van welk apparaat zij gebruikmaken.

Wij zijn op zoek naar inbreng van zoveel mogelijk verschillende onderdelen van de Wikimedia-gemeenschap. Die inbreng zal komen vanuit meerdere projecten, vanuit meerdere talen, en vanuit meerdere invalshoeken.

De raadpleging is momenteel in voorbereiding, en we hebben jouw hulp nodig:

We zijn op zoek naar vrijwilligers om ons te helpen het gesprek aan te gaan met hun gemeenschappen of gebruikersgroepen.

Jij kan helpen door een discussie op jouw wiki te faciliteren. Dit is wat je daarvoor moet doen:

1. Ten eerste: schrijf je groep hier in.
2. Maak daarna een pagina aan (of een sectie op een bestaande overlegpagina als de kroeg, of gebruik een e-maillijst – wat ook maar gebruikelijk is voor jouw groep) om informatie te verzamelen van andere mensen in jouw groep. Dit is geen stemming of een discussie gericht op besluitvorming: we verzamelen slechts feedback.
3. Vraag mensen vervolgens wat ze vinden van het communicatieproces. We zijn op zoek naar verhalen en andere informatie over hoe mensen met elkaar on- en off-wiki communiceren. Denk in het bijzonder aan het stellen van de volgende vijf vragen:
   1. Als je een onderwerp wilt bespreken met jouw gemeenschap, welke hulpmiddelen werken dan voor jou, en tegen welke problemen loop je aan?
   2. Welk aspect van overlegpagina's werkt voor nieuwkomers, en wat vormt voor hen een struikelblok?
   3. Waar worstelen anderen in jouw gemeenschap mee als het gaat om overlegpagina's?
   4. Wat zou je graag willen kunnen doen op overlegpagina's dat nu door technische beperkingen niet mogelijk is?
   5. Wat zijn de belangrijke aspecten van een 'wiki-discussie'?
4. Ga ten slotte naar de raadplegingspagina op mediawiki.org en doe verslag van wat je geleerd hebt van jouw groep. Voeg zo mogelijk links naar de discussie toe als die publiek toegankelijk is.

Je kan ook helpen met het maken van een lijst van de vele mogelijke manieren waarop mensen met elkaar communiceren.

Niet alle op of rond wiki's actieve groepen gebruiken dezelfde overlegmethoden: overleg kan on-wiki plaatsvinden, maar ook via sociale netwerken, door middel van externe hulpmiddelen, en meer. Vertel ons hoe jouw groep communiceert.

Recent changes

• There is a new version of the iOS Wikipedia app. It has for example syntax highlighting and new toolbars to make it easier to write wikitext. It also has night mode, a find-on-page function and other things. You can give feedback and suggestions. [4]

Changes later this week

• When you look at your watchlist or the recent changes page you can use the new filters for edit review. There you can choose tags to filter different edits. Empty tags will no longer be shown. [5]
• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 26 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 27 February. It will be on all wikis from 28 February (calendar).

Meetings

• You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 27 February at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.

Future changes

• The Wikipedia app for Android will invite users to add Wikidata descriptions to Wikidata objects that have Wikipedia articles but no Wikidata descriptions. It will only invite users who have added a number of Wikidata descriptions in the app without being reverted. This is to avoid spam and bad edits. You can read more and leave feedback.

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 25 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 26 February. It will be on all wikis from 27 February (calendar).

Future changes

• There will be a reply button after each post on a talk page if you want one. This will soon be a beta feature on the Arabic, French, Dutch and Hungarian Wikipedias. You will have to turn it on if you want to use it. It will come to more wikis later. You can test the reply button. It was briefly shown earlier than planned by mistake on the four first wikis last week.

• Development
  • Continuing development on the first version of the Query Builder. It's starting to be able to do the first really meaningful queries now. Latest addition was the ability to negate conditions. Up next is the ability to connect conditions with OR instead of only AND as well as querying for quantities and ranges. You can follow along on the test system.
  • Exploring possible solutions for how to compare Wikidata's data against other databases to find and highlight mismatches automatically.
  • Added lexicographical data codes for a few languages: rkt, ctg (phab:T271589), and az-cyrl (phab:T265906)
  • Finished working on the issue of TypeError on a diff of a Wikidata talk page phab:T271402
  • Updated Wikidata unit conversion configuration (phab:T267644)

Het laatste technieuws van de technische gemeenschap van Wikimedia. Niet alle wijzigingen hebben een merkbaar effect op alle projecten. Meer vertalingen zijn beschikbaar.

Problemen en onderhoud

• IPv6 addressen in diffs gebruikten kleine letters in plaats van hoofdletters waardoor links in Speciaal:Bijdragen niet werkten. Dit is nu verholpen. [11]

Wijzigingen later deze week

• Je kan binnenkort links naar pagina's op de taalneutrale versie van Wikisource toevoegen aan Wikidata items. [12]
• Wikimedianen gebruiken nogal eens een "non-breaking space" ( ) om twee dingen van elkaar los te maken zonder dat ze door een nieuwe regel worden opgebroken. Je kan dit karakter nu toevoegen via "Speciale tekens" in de 2010 editor, 2017 editor en de visuele tekstverwerker. In de visuele tekstverwerker zal het karakter worden weergegeven als een spatie met een grijze achtergrond. [13][14]
• Wiki's gebruiken misbruikfilters om slechte bewerkingen tegen te gaan. Bij het bewerken van een filter (alleen moderatoren) kan nu voor IP ranges zowel de syntax 1.2.3.4 - 1.2.3.55 als 1.2.3.4/27 gebruikt worden. [15]
• De nieuwe versie van MediaWiki zal op 2 februari uitgerold worden op testwiki's en op MediaWiki.org. De nieuwe versie zal op 3 februari uitgerold worden op sommige Wikipedias en alle projecten die geen Wikipedia zijn. Op 4 februari zal de nieuwe versie op alle overige projecten uitgerold worden. Toekomstige wijzigingen

• Minerva is het thema dat Wikimedia wiki's gebruiken voor de mobiele versie van de site. Als een pagina beveiligd is en niet bewerkt kan worden dan kan je normaal wel de wikitext bekijken, maar dit werkt niet naar verwachting met Minerva. Op de Engelse Wikipedia is nu een "brontekst bekijken" link toegevoegd aan de zwarte "toast" melding die je ziet wanneer je probeert om een beveiligde pagina te bewerken. Een ander probleem is dat MediaWiki:Protectedpagetext op een aantal wiki's HTML gebruikt die niet goed kan worden weergegeven op veel mobiele apparaten waardoor overlappende tekst ontstaat. Als jouw wiki in de lijst van dit Wikidata item staat, controleer dan of de wikitext "position:relative" bevat en start een lokale discussie als dit het geval is. Geen van de Nederlandstalige projecten is hierdoor getroffen. Meer informatie is beschikbaar. [16][17]
• Cloud VPS en Toolforge krijgen op 8 februari een nieuw IP dat ze zullen gebruiken om verbinding te maken met wiki's. Het nieuwe IP adres is 185.15.56.1. Verder lezen.

Recente wijzigingen

• Volglijsten en overlegpagina's zijn nu beschikbaar in de Wikipedia app voor Android. [18]

Wijzigingen later deze week

• Je kan nieuwe bewerkingen bijhouden door pagina's op je volglijst te zetten. Volglijsten zijn individueel voor iedere wiki. Op 11 februari komt de GlobalWatchlist naar Meta-wiki met de mogelijkheid om de bewerkingen van tot 5 verschillende wiki's bij te houden op één pagina. Deze globale volglijst zal beschikbaar zijn via Special:GlobalWatchlist op Meta-wiki. De instellingen voor de globale volglijst kunnen aangepast worden via Special:GlobalWatchlistSettings, eveneens op Meta-wiki. [19]
• De nieuwe versie van MediaWiki zal op 9 februari uitgerold worden op testwiki's en op MediaWiki.org. De nieuwe versie zal op 10 februari uitgerold worden op sommige Wikipedias en alle projecten die geen Wikipedia zijn. Op 11 februari zal de nieuwe versie op alle overige projecten uitgerold worden. Toekomstige wijzigingen

• Het formulier voor het instellen van paginabeveiliging zal de OOUI look-and-feel gebruiken. Special:Import krijgt ook de nieuwe look. Deze pagina's zullen hierdoor makkelijker in gebruik zijn op mobiele apparaten. [20][21]
• Wegens databaseonderhoud zijn een aantal diensten tijdelijk niet beschikbaar op 17 februari vanaf 07:00 UTC. Er kunnen problemen optreden met nieuwe compacte links, nieuwe vertalingen, nieuwe meldingen, het toevoegen van nieuwe items aan leeslijsten en het vastleggen van automatisch teruggezonden email die niet kon worden afgeleverd. • Vorige week stond in Tech News dat het IP adres van Cloud VPS en Toolforge dat deze diensten gebruiken om verbinding te maken met wiki's zal veranderen op 8 februari. Dit is uitgesteld. [23]

  • Abstract Wikipedia presents prototypes of two tools that could help people to visualize, exemplify, and better guide our understanding of the coverage of lexicographic data in Wikidata.
  • Public Domain Tool, developed by the Flemish Institute for Archives automates the process of determining whether their collection items could be in the public domain.
  • Sizes of country items (like "Portugal" (Q45)) were recently reduced by 30% to 50% by moving a few economics properties to "economy of"-items (sample: "economy of Portugal" (Q1649355)). The item "economy of Portugal" is currently larger than "Portugal". This can simplify uses of country items that previously timed-out. Infoboxes can still access the properties with the link through "economy of topic" (P8744).
  • Later this week, the development team will enable a rate limit for assigning new item IDs. Bots and users who successfully create items should notice no change, since the rate limit is equal to the existing limit on all edits. However, bots that often fail to create items may start to see different error messages than usual. This will hopefully reduce the problem of skipped item IDs.

  • Improved the deployment process for the Query Service UI to make it easier to deploy
  • Fixed language code "dag" for Dagbani not working for Lemmas for Lexemes (phab:T272242)
  • Fixing the bug where the Property selector is not falling back from language variant to major language for Property labels (phab:T272712)
  • Adding a rate limit for creating Item IDs to avoid skipping so many due to misbehaving bots (phab:T272032)
  • Fixed the case where no error was shown when trying to save a lemma with an invalid language code (phab:T265783)
  • Fixed a but where merging two Lexemes fails if the source Lexeme has links to its own Senses (phab:T273830)
  • Increasing the rate of edits that trigger a check by the constraint checker to 50%. This will increase the number of constraints violations that you can query in the Query Service. (phab:T204031)

Problemen en onderhoud

• Omdat recente versies van MediaWiki problemen veroorzaakten hebben de ontwikkelaars MediaWiki teruggedraaid naar een oude versie. Een aantal updates en nieuwe functies arriveren daardoor later dan verwacht. [25][26]
• Wegens databaseonderhoud zijn een aantal diensten tijdelijk niet beschikbaar op 17 februari vanaf 07:00 UTC. Er kunnen problemen optreden met nieuwe compacte links, nieuwe vertalingen, nieuwe meldingen, het toevoegen van nieuwe items aan leeslijsten en het vastleggen van automatisch teruggezonden email die niet kon worden afgeleverd. Wijzigingen later deze week

• De nieuwe versie van MediaWiki zal op 16 februari uitgerold worden op testwiki's en op MediaWiki.org. De nieuwe versie zal op 17 februari uitgerold worden op sommige Wikipedias en alle projecten die geen Wikipedia zijn. Op 18 februari zal de nieuwe versie op alle overige projecten uitgerold worden. Recente wijzigingen

• De Visuele tekstverwerker gebruikt nu MediaSearch om afbeeldingen op Commons te vinden voor gebruik in artikelen. [29]
• De syntax highlighter werkt nu met meer talen: Futhark, Graphviz/DOT, CDDL en AMDGPU. [30]

Problemen en onderhoud

• Het bewerken van een tijdlijn (wikitekst die resulteert in een afbeelding van een tijdlijn) kan resulteren in het verdwijnen van alle tekst op de tijdlijn. Dit probleem is verholpen, maar je moet tijdlijnen waarvan de tekst mist mogelijk nogmaals bewerken om de weergave weer goed te krijgen. [31]

Recent changes

• English Wikipedia recently set up a gadget for dark mode. You can enable it there, or request help from an interface administrator to set it up on your wiki (instructions and screenshot).
• Category counts are sometimes wrong. They will now be completely recounted at the beginning of every month. [32]

Problems

• A code-change last week to fix a bug with Live Preview may have caused problems with some local gadgets and user-scripts. Any code with skin-specific behaviour for vector should be updated to also check for vector-2022. A code-snippet, global search, and example are available.

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 8 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 9 February. It will be on all wikis from 10 February (calendar).

Recent changes

• Purging a category page with fewer than 5,000 members will now recount it completely. This will allow editors to fix incorrect counts when it is wrong. [33]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 15 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 16 February. It will be on all wikis from 17 February (calendar).
• In the AbuseFilter extension, the rmspecials() function has been updated so that it does not remove the "space" character. Wikis are advised to wrap all the uses of rmspecials() with rmwhitespace() wherever necessary to keep filters' behavior unchanged. You can use the search function on Special:AbuseFilter to locate its usage. [34]

Recent changes

• Special:Nuke will now provide the standard deletion reasons (editable at MediaWiki:Deletereason-dropdown) to use when mass-deleting pages. This was a request in the 2022 Community Wishlist Survey. [35]
• At Wikipedias, all new accounts now get the Growth features by default when creating an account. Communities are encouraged to update their help resources. Previously, only 80% of new accounts would get the Growth features. A few Wikipedias remain unaffected by this change. [36]
• You can now prevent specific images that are used in a page from appearing in other locations, such as within PagePreviews or Search results. This is done with the markup class=notpageimage. For example, [[File:Example.png|class=notpageimage]]. [37]
• There has been a change to the HTML of Special:Contributions, Special:MergeHistory, and History pages, to support the grouping of changes by date in the mobile skin. While unlikely, this may affect gadgets and user scripts. A list of all the HTML changes is on Phabricator.

Events

• Community Wishlist Survey results have been published. The ranking of prioritized proposals is also available.

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 22 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 23 February. It will be on all wikis from 24 February (calendar).

Future changes

• The software to play videos and audio files on pages will change soon on all wikis. The old player will be removed. Some audio players will become wider after this change. The new player has been a beta feature for over four years. [38][39]
• Toolforge's underlying operating system is being updated. If you maintain any tools there, there are two options for migrating your tools into the new system. There are details, deadlines, and instructions on Wikitech. [40]
• Administrators will soon have the option to delete/undelete the associated "talk" page when they are deleting a given page. An API endpoint with this option will also be available. This was a request from the 2021 Wishlist Survey.

Recent changes

• When searching for edits by change tags, e.g. in page history or user contributions, there is now a dropdown list of possible tags. This was a request in the 2022 Community Wishlist Survey. [41]
• Mentors using the Growth Mentor dashboard will now see newcomers assigned to them who have made at least one edit, up to 200 edits. Previously, all newcomers assigned to the mentor were visible on the dashboard, even ones without any edit or ones who made hundred of edits. Mentors can still change these values using the filters on their dashboard. Also, the last choice of filters will now be saved. [42][43]
• The user group oversight was renamed suppress. This is for technical reasons. You may need to update any local references to the old name, e.g. gadgets, links to Special:Listusers, or uses of NUMBERINGROUP.

Problems

• The recent change to the HTML of tracking changes pages caused some problems for screenreaders. This is being fixed. [44]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 1 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 2 March. It will be on all wikis from 3 March (calendar).

Future changes

• Working with templates will become easier. Several improvements are planned for March 9 on most wikis and on March 16 on English Wikipedia. The improvements include: Bracket matching, syntax highlighting colors, finding and inserting templates, and related visual editor features.
• If you are a template developer or an interface administrator, and you are intentionally overriding or using the default CSS styles of user feedback boxes (the classes: successbox, messagebox, errorbox, warningbox), please note that these classes and associated CSS will soon be removed from MediaWiki core. This is to prevent problems when the same class-names are also used on a wiki. Please let us know by commenting at phab:T300314 if you think you might be affected.

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 7 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 8 February. It will be on all wikis from 9 February (calendar).
• Previously, we announced when some wikis would be in read-only for a few minutes because of a switch of their main database. These switches will not be announced any more, as the read-only time has become non-significant. Switches will continue to happen at 7AM UTC on Tuesdays and Thursdays. [46]
• Across all the wikis, in the Vector 2022 skin, logged-in users will see the page-related links such as "What links here" in a new side menu. It will be displayed on the other side of the screen. This change had previously been made on Czech, English, and Vietnamese Wikipedias. [47]
• Community Wishlist Survey 2023 will stop receiving new proposals on Monday, 6 February 2023, at 18:00 UTC. Proposers should complete any edits by then, to give time for translations and review. Voting will begin on Friday, 10 February.

Future changes

• Gadgets and user scripts will be changing to load on desktop and mobile sites. Previously they would only load on the desktop site. It is recommended that wiki administrators audit the gadget definitions prior to this change, and add skins=… for any gadgets which should not load on mobile. More details are available.

Problems

• Last week, during planned maintenance of Cloud Services, unforeseen complications forced the team to turn off all tools for 2–3 hours to prevent data corruption. Work is ongoing to prevent similar problems in the future. [53]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 21 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 22 February. It will be on all wikis from 23 February (calendar).
• The voting phase for the Community Wishlist Survey 2023 ends on 24 February at 18:00 UTC. The results of the survey will be announced on 28 February.

Future changes

• All wikis will be read-only for a few minutes on March 1. This is planned for 14:00 UTC. More information will be published in Tech News and will also be posted on individual wikis in the coming weeks. [54][55][56]

• Last week, in some areas of the world, there were problems with loading pages for 20 minutes and saving edits for 55 minutes. These issues were caused by a problem with our caching servers due to unforseen events during a routine maintenance task. [57][58]

Recent changes

• The mobile site history pages now use the same HTML as the desktop history pages. If you hear of any problems relating to mobile history usage please point them to the phabricator task.
• On most wikis, admins can now block users from making specific actions. These actions are: uploading files, creating new pages, moving (renaming) pages, and sending thanks. The goal of this feature is to allow admins to apply blocks that are adequate to the blocked users' activity. Learn more about "action blocks". [60][61]

Changes later this week

• The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 February. It will be on all wikis from 8 February (calendar). [62][63]
• Talk pages permalinks that included diacritics and non-Latin script were malfunctioning. This issue is fixed. [64]

Future changes

• 24 Wikipedias with Reference Tooltips as a default gadget are encouraged to remove that default flag. This would make Reference Previews the new default for reference popups, leading to a more consistent experience across wikis. For 46 Wikipedias with less than 4 interface admins, the change is already scheduled for mid-February, unless there are concerns. The older Reference Tooltips gadget will still remain usable and will override this feature, if it is available on your wiki and you have enabled it in your settings. [65][66]

Development

• The new mul language code is now ready for beta testing. You can find out more at Help talk:Default values for labels and aliases.
• The graph split testing for the Wikidata Query Service has started. Please find more details in the "Other Noteworthy Stuff" section above.
• IP Masking: We are continuing the work on adapting Wikibase for the upcoming IP Masking feature, so that IP addresses for non-logged-in users are no longer published.
• Wikibase REST API:
  • We finished the route for getting and removing a sitelink from an Item (phab:T344039, phab:T344685) and we continue work on the one for adding/ replacing and modifying a sitelink on an Item (phab:T342987, phab:T342988)
  • We now handle of case sensitive statement IDs in GET, PUT, PATCH and DELETE requests as HTTP redirect (phab:T354261)
  • We documented the differences in sitelink data structure between Wikibase REST API and Action API responses (phab:T355659)
  • We fixed the bug where sitelink data did not include badges (phab:T355293)

Recente wijzigingen

• Het WDQS-experiment voor het splitsen van grafen werkt en is op 3 test-servers geladen. Het verantwoordelijke team test de impact van de splitsing en heeft feedback nodig van WDQS-gebruikers via de UI of programmatisch via verschillende kanalen. Met de feedback van gebruikers van [67][68][69] zal de impact van verschillende use cases en workflows rond de Wikidata Query service worden gevalideerd. [70][71]

Problemen en onderhoud

• Er was een bug die de weergave van bezochte koppelingen beïnvloedde bij gebruik van een mobiel apparaat. De links werden zwart weergegeven; dit probleem is verholpen.

Wijzigingen later deze week

• De nieuwe versie van MediaWiki zal vanaf 13 februari op testwiki's en MediaWiki.org staan. Vanaf 14 februari staat deze op de niet-Wikipedia-wiki's en enkele Wikipedia's. Deze versie staat vanaf 15 februari op alle wiki's (agenda). [72][73]
• Het uitfaseren van de grid engine vordert gestaag. Als volgende stap worden vanaf 14 februari 2024 tools gestopt. [74] Mocht je tools aan het migreren zijn maar ben je daar nog niet helemaal mee klaar, dan kan je om verlenging vragen zodat ze niet worden gestopt. [75]
